A Man without Strong Emotions
Meursault is sentenced to die for a murder he committed without a good reason, for not showing any attachment to his mother during her funeral, for not being passionate about anything, for not wanting to marry the woman whose company he enjoys. For being not human enough, and yet being rather satisfied with himself. His indifference to life or death, his disbelief in God, reveals a man empty inside, much as modern man has been depicted in literature and philosophy since the XIX century. It is a great brief novel that leaves us wondering about lack of meaning in our lives.
